Who we are

Rise ("we," "us," or "our") is a free scheduling tool built for UTD students. You can reach us at utdrise.app@gmail.com or through utdrise.com.

What we collect

When you sign in to use seat alerts, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We also store the Discord webhook URLs you provide, and the courses and sections you add to your alert list.

Scheduling usage (signed out)

Even if you don't create an account, Rise assigns a random anonymous ID stored in your browser (local storage) so we can group events without knowing who you are. When you build or reload schedules, we may send that ID along with course codes, term, and event type (for example add, reload, or search) to our servers.

We use this information in aggregate to see which courses people care about (e.g. "hot" or popular courses), improve scraping and data freshness, and understand how the scheduler is used. It is not used to show your name or email (you haven't given us those if you're signed out). Our systems may also record the IP address and browser user-agent string with that anonymous ID for abuse prevention and basic diagnostics.

Individual course-tracking events are kept for a limited time (on the order of days) before automatic deletion, after which only aggregated statistics may remain.

We use Vercel Analytics and Google Analytics to understand how people use Rise. These tools collect anonymized usage data including pages visited, time spent, and general location. They use cookies to do this.

We do not collect payment information.

How we use your data

We use your email and name to identify your account. We use your Discord webhook URL to send you seat availability notifications. We use your alert preferences to monitor the sections you care about. We use analytics data to improve Rise.

We use anonymous IDs and course-level events to power popularity signals, prioritize which course data to refresh, and keep Rise useful during registration — always in a way that doesn't require your real name for signed-out use.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We use service providers to run Rise (for example cloud hosting on AWS, authentication through Google, and analytics through Vercel and Google). They process data on our behalf under their terms and privacy policies.

We do not share your data with advertisers and we do not use it for targeted ads.

Data retention

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing utdrise.app@gmail.com. We will remove your data within 7 days.

Triggered seat alerts are automatically deleted from our system after 7 days.

Your choices

Clearing site data or local storage in your browser removes the anonymous ID and stops new scheduling events from being tied to your previous random ID (a new one may be created on next visit). You can also use Rise in a private/incognito window if you prefer not to keep a persistent anonymous ID between sessions.

Cookies

Rise uses cookies through Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics for usage tracking. You can disable cookies in your browser settings.

Children's privacy

Rise is intended for university students. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy as Rise evolves. We'll update the date at the top when we do.
